River on your phone
One tap back to the page.
River runs at rivernotes.app. Open it in your browser and start writing. You can also add it to your Home Screen, so it opens from its own icon.
Safari
On iPhone
- Open rivernotes.app in Safari.
- Open the Share menu — the square with an arrow pointing up. You may need to open Safari’s menu first.
- Choose Add to Home Screen. If you see Open as Web App, leave it switched on.
- Tap Add. Open River from the new icon.
If the option is missing, scroll down the Share menu. Apple’s guide shows the steps for your version of iOS.
Chrome
On Android
- Open rivernotes.app in Chrome.
- Tap the three-dot menu beside the address bar.
- Choose Add to home screen, then Install. Some versions show Install app directly.
- Follow the prompt, then open River from its icon.
Menu wording can vary. You can keep writing in Chrome if installation isn’t offered. Google’s guide has the current steps.
Already started writing?
Before switching to the new icon, sign in from that original browser and let your writing sync. Use the same account when you open the icon.
If the new icon opens an empty page, return to the original browser to find your writing.

Open rivernotes.app in Safari or Chrome, rather than inside your social or email app.
We don’t currently publish an app in Google Play or Apple’s App Store. An app with a similar name there isn’t this River.
