Do I need an account to save my writing?
Without an account, your writing is saved in this browser only. Clearing its stored data or losing the device can mean losing that writing. A free account keeps an encrypted copy with River once your writing has synced. Changes that haven’t synced remain only on the device where you made them.
What if I stop paying?
You keep writing, one device at a time. Nothing is deleted, and you can export at any point.
Is free actually usable?
Yes. A free account keeps an encrypted copy of your writing with River, with one device in sync at a time. Paying keeps all your devices in sync without switching, adds twelve months of version history, and adds search by meaning to look for related thoughts beyond exact word matches.
Can I get a refund?
Within 30 days. We email you before the renewal charge, and cancelling takes one click.
What if River ends?
If the company ever winds down or River Notes stops, we'll give you plenty of warning. Your writing stays on your device, and you can download your full archive at any time. You can do that today, from inside Settings.
Is there a monthly plan?
No. Annual only. It keeps things simple and the price honest.
Will the price increase?
If it ever does, you'll keep your price for two years from the day we announce the change, and we'll tell you by email.
How does encryption work?
Your notes are encrypted on your device before sync, and protected at rest. River is recoverable by design, which means account recovery may be possible.
