Writing to think
That was how this whole thing started.
When you wake up and get going each day, well, perhaps you'll find that there are all sorts of other plans to make, decisions to wrestle with, people to meet.
But before (or sometimes after) all that happens, I've often found it helpful to get some of my words out.
Somewhere that it doesn't matter too much. A private spot where I can get a few things out, and not have to worry about it being all perfect and fancy.
For me, a lot of the words I get down in writing or speech are pretty basic, quite messy, and rough. But I am happy to do it. And I like it. I often look forward to that ten or twenty minutes when I drop a thought in and maybe pull it out a little.
Layering up a deeper life
The process of catching things on the go starts to add up pretty positively. And quickly.
It can be quite easy to start running on fumes, and when there's a lot to do it is tempting to try and optimise.
For me though, developing a regular practice of getting my words down makes all the difference in the world.
It's a chance to start layering up a deeper life. When I stop writing regularly, I feel that it definitely has a link to a sense that my thinking seems thin. But putting some words down several times a week can go a long way to help connect some important pieces in your life.
If you want to try it, I reckon that you might be surprised by just how insightful some of your own thoughts are. You might even be surprised when you hear yourself saying things that you didn't know you knew!
What River is for
River Notes is a place for dropping your words in as you go through the craziness of your days. Just open it up, and start writing. Or speaking. No one needs to see it. You don't need to "do" anything with it.
But you might find that making space to drop into flow and get some of your thoughts is the unexpected new practice that you didn't know you wanted.
So give it a go! And when you do, why not drop it in River?
